“Each little
subculture has its own set of status symbols,” Davies said “If you are a member
of a certain subculture, that is primarily what you are influenced by.”
As a result
of societal changes status symbols may not automatically bring status any
longer, Davies said. Although Americans still rush into encounters to purchase
status objects that they are generally more conce…. now with what a person is
making rather than that what a person is wearing, according to Davies. As a
result, he said, the right clother and the proper brand of wine don’t guarantee
acceptance.
