Κινέζικες, Γιαπωνέζικες και Κορεάτικες

σειρές και ταινίες

 

Κινέζικες

  Νεότερος είχα ταυτίσει τον κινέζικο κινηματογράφο με το Kung Foo και τις επικές ταινίες δράσης. Από τον πρώτο διδάξαντα Bruce Lee, έως τους Jackie Chan, Jet Li και Donnie Yen (στο ρόλο του IpMan από το 2008). Μέσο προβολής βέβαια ήταν τότε ο κινηματογράφος, η τηλεόραση και το βίντεο.

   Και μετά ήρθε το διαδίκτυο και οι διάφορες πλατφόρμες (Netflix, IQIYI, VikyRakuten, Youtube, WeTV, Kisskh, Kissasian, Watchasian κ.ά.) Υπάρχει βέβαια κι ένας κινέζικος κινηματογράφος πιο «βαρύς», υψηλότερων ίσως απαιτήσεων, όπως η «Σκιά» του Ζανγκ Γιμού του 2018, αλλά και το οσκαρικό Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon του AngLee (2000), ταινία που έσπασε τα ταμεία με τους ηθοποιούς ChowYun Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, με τη χορογραφία των πολεμικών αναμετρήσεων να φτάνει στο ποιητικό αποκορύφωμά της. Ποιος δεν θυμάται τη μονομαχία στα κλαδιά των δέντρων μπαμπού;

   Αν διατρέξει κανείς ωστόσο αρκετές κινέζικες σειρές και ταινίες, θα διαπιστώσει ορισμένες χαρακτηριστικές ιδιαιτερότητες των κινέζων. Κυριαρχούν επικές ταινίες και σειρές δράσης με πλήθος κομπάρσων (ούτε στο Hollywood ούτε στο Bollywood θα βρείτε τόσους), οι ποιητικές ταινίες φαντασίας που αντλούν από κινέζικους μύθους, οι ίντριγκες κυρίως στις σειρές εποχής. Το κινέζικο χιούμορ πολλές φορές είναι ανατρεπτικό, όπως στο Kung Foo Hustle (2004) παρωδία ταινιών Κουνγκ φου του Steven Chow,  στις σειρές Go East (2024 στο IQIYI), Αδελφοί Σαν (Netflix 2024) με τη Michelle Yeohκαι το Shang-Chi μια ταινία με υπερήρωα στο ύφος των αντίστοιχων αμερικάνικων, αλλά με περισσότερο χιούμορ. Θα πρότεινα όμως και κάποιες επικές σειρές δράσης όπως το Luoyang και το Eternal Brotherhood

  Στο Youtube μπορεί κανείς να βρει και σκηνές από εξαιρετικές σειρές ταινίες, όπως το Deadly Beauty Assassin. Τώρα τελευταία σ’αυτή την πλατφόρμα έχουν εμφανιστεί και πάρα πολλά βιντεάκια κατασκευασμένα από τεχνητή νοημοσύνη (ΑΙ), όπως και στο Facebook.

Γιαπωνέζικες

   Στις γιαπωνέζικες κυριαρχεί η αποτροπιαστική βία. Πιο χαρακτηριστική η μορφή του κωμικού Takeshi Kitano, που ωστόσο έχει παίξει και σε ταινίες δράσης. Αν προσπεράσουμε τον παλαιό σημαντικό σκηνοθέτη Akira Kurosawaμε τους σαμουράι του, μπορούμε να σταθούμε σε ταινίες όπως το The Last Samourai με τον Τομ Κρουζ (του 2003) ή το Shogun (σειρά του 2024) που κέρδισε βραβείο Emmy, αν και στη σειρά μιλούν γιαπωνέζικα. Στην Ιαπωνία, επίσης, είναι γνωστό ότι ανθίζει η παραγωγή βιβλίων, ταινιών και σειρών Manga, το δικό τους animation. Ωστόσο εδώ θα πρότεινα τις ταινίες Rourouni Kenshin, καθώς και την αριστουργηματική μίνι σειρά“O οίκος των Νίντζα” στο Netflix.

Κορεάτικες

   Άφησα τελευταίες τις Κορεάτικες σειρές, εφόσον αυτές είναι οι πιο δημοφιλείς παγκοσμίως τα τελευταία χρόνια, τη δεκαετία του 2020 (αλλά και λίγο πιο πριν). Από τις πιο διάσημες σειρές ξεχώρισα τις: 1. Προσγείωση στον έρωτα, 2. Ο βασιλιάς: Αιώνιος Μονάρχης, 3. Βιτσέντζο, 4. Ύαινα, 5. Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon, 6. Military Prosecutor Doberman, 7. Graceful Family και άλλες ων ουκ έστι αριθμός.

   Στις Κορεάτικες κυριαρχεί το δημοφιλές είδος της ρομαντικής κομεντί, αν και κανείς μπορεί να βρει όποιο είδος θέλει. Από επιστημονική φαντασία, όπως το Blood Free (του 2024) έως εποχής, δράσης, νουάρ, θρίλερ ή φαντασίας. Οι κορεάτικες ξεχωρίζουν για το χιούμορ, τη φαντασία, την ηθοποιία και τη σκηνοθεσία τους

TV Series and Films

 

Chinese

   When I was younger, I associated Chinese cinema with Kung Fu and epic action films. From the pioneer Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen (in his role as Ip Man in the 2008 film). Back then, of course, the main ways of watching films were cinemas, television and video.

Then came the internet and the various streaming platforms (Netflix, iQIYI, Viki Rakuten, YouTube, WeTV, Kisskh, Kissasian, Watchasian, and others).

   There is, of course, also a more serious, perhaps more demanding side to Chinese cinema, as seen in Zhang Yimou's Shadow (2018), as well as Ang Lee's Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). The latter was a huge box-office success, starring Chow Yun-fat, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi. The choreography of the martial arts sequences reaches a poetic climax. Who could forget the duel among the branches of the bamboo trees?

   However, if you explore a considerable number of Chinese films and TV series, you will notice certain distinctive characteristics of Chinese filmmaking. Epic action films and series featuring huge numbers of extras are particularly prevalent (you won't find so many even in Hollywood or Bollywood). There are also poetic fantasy films drawing inspiration from Chinese mythology, as well as political intrigue, especially in historical dramas.

   Chinese humour can often be subversive and unexpected, as in Kung Fu Hustle (2004), Steven Chow's parody of Kung Fu films, and in TV series such as Go East (2024, on iQIYI) and The Brothers Sun (Netflix, 2024), starring Michelle Yeoh. Another example is Shang-Chi, a superhero film in the style of its American counterparts, but with a greater dose of humour.

   I would also recommend some epic action series, such as Luoyang and Eternal Brotherhood.

   On YouTube, you can also find scenes from some excellent films and TV series, such as Deadly Beauty Assassin. More recently, this platform, just like Facebook, has also seen the appearance of a great many videos generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

 

Japanese

 

   Japanese productions are often dominated by shocking and brutal violence. One of the most characteristic figures is the comedian Takeshi Kitano, who has also appeared in action films.

   If we set aside the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and his samurai films, we can turn our attention to productions such as The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise (2003), or Shōgun (the 2024 TV series), which won an Emmy Award, even though Japanese is spoken throughout much of the series.

   Japan is also well known for its flourishing production of manga books, films and TV series, its own distinctive form of animation.

   Here, however, I would recommend the Rurouni Kenshin films, as well as the magnificent Netflix miniseries House of Ninjas.

 

Korean

 

   I have left Korean TV series until last, since they have been the most popular worldwide in recent years, particularly throughout the 2020s, although their popularity had already begun to grow somewhat earlier.

   Among the most famous series, I would single out the following:

Crash Landing on You

The King: Eternal Monarch

Vincenzo

Hyena

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon

Military Prosecutor Doberman

Graceful Family

And the list goes on and on.

   Romantic comedies are particularly popular among Korean productions, although viewers can find practically any genre they might be interested in. These range from science fiction, such as Blood Free (2024), to historical dramas, action, film noir, thrillers and fantasy.

   Korean productions stand out for their humour, imagination, acting performances and direction.
